Born in Preston, Lancashire, in 1978, Francesca Hudson developed a passion for drawing and painting from an early age, later graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2000. She now lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Specialising in acrylic and mixed media painting, Francesca’s work has been exhibited widely both in the UK and overseas and she has enjoyed consistent commissions from corporate customers and private collectors. She was recently awarded the '2011 Valeria Sykes Sponsor’s Choice' prize in the '2011 New Lights Competition’ for painters aged 23-35 living and working in the North of England.
Her compositional formula is to build a ‘wallpaper’ environment on top of which she paints small areas of detail to create pictures within the picture. She strives for a balance between control and happenstance, introducing thread and beads, vertical strips and texture into the surface to give the paintings depth and unpredictability. The threads and beads catch the light, move and invite touch so that the painting stays alive. Fun, quirky and very original – we love it!
