Nina Harvey
Nina Harvey was born in Belfast in 1968 and studied at University of Ulster art college where she completed a BA Hons degree in Textile Design. Her love of texture and pattern developed in her work as an assistant designer in a linen mill and her understanding of colour expanded when she set up her own award winning business designing and making contemporary rugs. The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Belfast has one of her sculptural textile pieces in its permanent collection.
A move to England in 2003 provided the impetus to spend more time painting which proved to be a more versatile medium for expressing design ideas previously restrained within the practical limitations of textile design and manufacture. With this new freedom and a whole new world to explore, painting became full time in 2004.
Working in oils, Nina's love of texture results in many paintings comprising of layers, giving an old distressed appearance, but the composition is frequently geometric and modern with impressionistic colours. Other paintings are more photographic in their realism and spontaneity exploring the character of the dogs Nina lives with.
Nina lives in Gloucestershire, England with her husband and numerous Irish Wolfhounds.
